34 Juvenile detainees to be moved from Ofer to Damon jail
Israeli jailers insist on transferring juveniles without adult escort
The Israeli administration of Ofer jail told Palestinian prisoners, who represent detained minors, that it would transfer 34 juveniles on Monday to Damon jail, without adult escort.
According to the Palestinian Commission of Detainees’ and Ex-Detainees’ Affairs, the Ofer jailers insisted to transfer those juvenile prisoners without allowing their adult representatives in the jail to be with them in Damon jail.
A few days ago, the Ofer administration had informed adult prisoners that it would relocate 60 minors to Damon jail, without their representatives being with them.
Such decision has been rejected by Palestinian detainees in all jails, prompting them to announce their intention to take protest steps if the jailers ignored their demands and moved any child without adult escort.
The representatives expressed concern over the fate of those detained minors, who could be exposed to maltreatment at the hands of Israeli jailers, especially in the absence of their representatives.
There are about 200 Palestinian minors in Israeli jails, and they receive supervision, representation and care by adult prisoners.
