Al-Aqsa Mosque to reopen Sunday
Al-Aqsa Mosque will reopen to Muslim worshipers on Sunday, about two months after it was closed due to the coronavirus pandemic, Jerusalem’s Islamic Awqaf Department announced on Wednesday.
Al-Aqsa Mosque’s preacher and chairman of Jerusalem’s Higher Islamic Council Ekrima Sabri said that all necessary measures have been taken to gradually allow public worship at the holy site starting next Sunday.
The Islamic Awqaf late March announced a complete closure on al-Aqsa Mosque in an effort to protect Muslim worshipers and help combat the spread of coronavirus.
Only Aqsa guards and a number of Islamic Awqaf employees were allowed to pray at the site during the lockdown.
