Gaza signs $2.5m solar energy project
The Electricity Distribution Company in Gaza yesterday signed a deal to carry out the largest solar energy project in the coastal enclave worth $2.5 million funded by the International Bank, Safanews agency reported
In an announcement on Facebook, the company said that it would carry out the project under the supervision of the Palestinian Power Authority.
The project, it added, is to be funded through the Revolving Fund scheme and will initially be paid for by the EU and later on the EU collect the money from the PA funds which are being held by Israel.
According to the company, this project would decrease the deficit of power in the Gaza Strip, which has been enduring a Israeli siege for 11 years.
Palestinians in Gaza have only four hours of electricity every day as a result of the stifling siege.
