IBRASPAL promotes dialogue with parliamentarians in Brasilia

The Brazil Palestine Institute (Ibraspal) held a meeting on Thursday morning (13/6) with an Arabic breakfast which was attended by a large number of parliamentarians from different parties

The meeting was held to discuss solidarity initiatives with the Palestinian people in the Parliament and the Federal Senate, and to hear the views of parliamentarians on the initiatives which must be taken in solidarity with the struggle of the Palestinian people, also to condemn the crimes and violations of the Israeli occupation in the occupied territories.

Several parliamentarians, including the Senator Esperidio of Santa Catarina mandate of the Progressive Party, MP Marcio Gerry of the Brazilian Communist Party, MP Paolo Pimenta, leader of the Parliamentary bloc of the labor party.  MP Edmondson Rodriguez the representative of the socialist and freedom party, proposed the establishment of a parliamentary front that supports the rights of the Palestinian people, and unite efforts to condemn the violations, tragedies and attacks against the Palestinian people in the West Bank and the Gaza Strip.

Hilder Solomon, representative of the Labor Party from the state of Espirito Santo and head of the Commission on Human Rights and Minorities in the council of the representatives, promised to respond to the proposal made by Labor Party representative Erika Kokai for holding a public hearing in the committee to discuss the issue of the violation of human rights of the Palestinians.

The Israeli occupation is the one who is responsible on the whole humanitarian catastrophes and crisis experienced by the Palestinian people particularly in Gaza Strip. where the Israeli siege of the Gaza Strip which lasted 13 years has resulted in more suffering, deprivation, poverty and lack of food and medicine.

Dr. Ahmed Shehada, head of the Institute, mentioned that the Palestinians are the victims of countless violations by the occupier entity, violations by the occupation on the lowest of their rights, and this is still going even after more than seventy years, saying: "We are under a continuous catastrophe, and the  massacres are being committed everyday against the  innocent" He also added:" There are hundreds of cases of human rights violations as a result of racial discrimination and racist policies produced by the occupying state, which do not respect the determinations of the United Nations. "

Parliamentarians will continue to support the establishment of the Front and they will begin to develop activities within the Congress of representatives. Two activities were agreed at the meeting, one of them is a public hearing at the Human Rights and Minorities Committee of the Congress of Representatives. The second event will be a major event to celebrate the International Day of Solidarity for the Palestinian People, to which will be held on 29 November.
