Israel boosts staff for military administration of West Bank

The Israeli government will soon double the staffing of the military’s Civil Administration, the body charged with managing daily affairs in the occupied West Bank, reported Israel Hayom

According to the report, in a meeting of the Knesset Subcommittee on Judea and Samaria [the West Bank] on Monday, Civil Administration head Brigadier General Ahvat Ben Hur called the plan “major”.

“The organisation’s purpose is to ensure maximal security stability in the region, while promoting quality of life for all the residents who live and work there and shaping the region based on Israeli interests,” Ben Hur said.

Kobi Eliraz, settlement policy adviser to Defence Minister Avigdor Lieberman, “said the groundwork for an infusion of Civil Administration workers should be completed within a month”.

Subcommittee chairman MK Moti Yogev of the Jewish Home claimed that a staff shortage in the Civil Administration “hurts not only Jewish settlement, but also the Palestinians”.

“If there is no working water infrastructure, if there aren’t up-to-date electricity grids, if there aren’t roads that can accommodate the population, they suffer exactly as we do”.
