Israel injures 13 Palestinians in Gaza solidarity protests

Israeli forces fire at Palestinians during the Great March of Return

Israeli occupation forces once again tried to suppress protests being held near the Israel-Gaza fence in solidarity with the Palestinian people.

Thirteen people Palestinians were injured,  the Ministry of Health reported, and dozens more suffered from suffocation as a result of Israel’s use of tear gas to break up  the protests.

Thousands of Palestinians have taken part in protests held each week since 30 March as part of the “Great March of Return” which has seen demonstrators calling for an end to the 11-year siegeof the Strip and for their right to return to the homes from which their families were forcibly displaced to make way for the creation of the state of Israel in 1948.

More than 200 Palestinians have been killed while taking part in the mass peaceful protests, while 21,500 have been injured.

In a statement released yesterday, international medical charity Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF, Doctors Without Borders) said that more than 1,000 Gazans shot by Israel are at risk of infection, which could lead to permanent disabilities or death.

MSF emphasised that the crisis was caused by the severity of the wounds inflicted by Israel’s policy of “shoot to maim” during the Great March of Return protests.
