Israel to deduct outstanding compensation from Palestinian tax revenues

The Israeli government has decided to deduct compensation for its spies from tax revenues it collects on behalf of the Palestinian Authority, Israel Hayom newspaper reported yesterday

The newspaper said the so-called Execution Office in Israel contacted the Ministry of Finance to deduct the compensation from Palestinian tax funds.

According to the paper, the procedure followed the Israeli Supreme Court’s decision in November to fine the Palestinian Authority 14 million shekels ($4 million) to compensate 52 spies who had been tortured during interrogation in West Bank prisons.

The agents were spies arrested by the Palestinian Authority security services in the 1990s and early 2000s for communicating with the Israeli occupation, collecting security information and sending it to Israel.

According to the newspaper, Israel collects between 700 and 900 million Israeli shekels ($200-$260 million) in tax revenues per month on behalf of the Palestinian Authority.
