Israeli army to remove tents, displace families in Khirbet Zanuta

The Israeli occupation army on Monday threatened to remove several tents and displace their residents in the agricultural hamlet of Khirbet Zanuta in the east of ad-Dhahiriya town, south of al-Khalil.

According to local sources, Israeli forces stormed the impoverished hamlet of Khirbet Zanuta near the illegal settlement of Shim’a and notified 12 local residents of a military decision ordering the removal of their tents.

As a result of this measure, entire Palestinian families with children will be rendered homeless soon.

Khirbet Zanuta has long suffered from the Israeli occupation and its practices. About 200 dunums of the village lands were confiscated during the second intifada (uprising) to build Jewish settler projects.

Furthermore, Khirbet Zanuta is encircled by the illegal settlements of Shim’a and Tene to the west, and a settler bypass road that runs through the center of the village from west to east.

Approximately six kilometers of Israel’s segregation wall had been constructed on Khirbet Zanuta land in 2004. Five water cisterns were destroyed due to the construction of the wall.
