Palestine records 1,911 Covid-19 cases, 18 deaths

Palestine today recorded 1,911 new Covid-19 cases and 18 deaths, according to Health Minister Mai Al-Kaileh.

She announced that 1,911 Palestinians tested positive for the highly contagious virus and 18 others died of it in the occupied territories, raising the total number of confirmed cases and fatalities since the pandemic outbreak to 299,636 and 3,150 respectively.

Among the new 1,911 cases, 619 cases were recorded in the West Bank, including East Jerusalem, and 1,911 others in the besieged Gaza Strip.

In the West Bank, Nablus district was ranked the first with (196) cases, followed by Jenin (110) cases, Hebron (80) cases, Ramallah & al-Bireh (69), Tubas (47) cases, Tulkarm (45) cases, Qalqiliya (28) cases, Bethlehem (18) cases, Salfit (16) cases, Jericho & the Jordan Valley (7) cases in addition to Jerusalem suburbs, which had three cases.

Al-Kaileh identified the deaths as 10 deaths from the West Bank, including Jerusalem, and eight others from the besieged Gaza Strip.

In terms of the number of deaths, Hebron and Tubas were ranked the first among the West Bank districts, with each recording 2 deaths, followed by Nablus, Qalqiliya, Jenin, Tulkarm, Salfit and Bethlehem, each district of which recorded a death case.

She added that 2,348 Covid-19 patients recovered; 1,491 recovery cases in the West Bank, including Jerusalem district, and 857 others in the Gaza Strip, raising the total recovery cases since the pandemic outbreak to 262,985.

She pointed that 182 Covid-19 patients are getting treatment in intensive care units, including 56 who are connected to ventilators, while 536 others are currently hospitalized across the West Bank.

Recoveries account for 88.0 percent of total cases since the pandemic outbreak in March, active cases for 11.0 percent and the death toll accounts for 1.0 percent.

Regarding the Covid-19 vaccination rollout, al-Kaileh said that 151,022 people have received the vaccine so far, including 17,660 people who received the second dose of the vaccine.
