Palestinian poetry, literary award winners announced

Writers from across the world have been rewarded for their work in support of the Gaza Strip as the winners of the “Keys to the future of Palestine” competition are announced.

The International Committee for Breaking the Siege of Gaza (ICBSG) today announced the winners of the poetry and short story awards.

Approximately 400 Arab entries were submitted for consideration from across the Muslim world including from Alegria, Palestine and Malaysia, with the competition running in three languages including English and Spanish.

Zahir Birawi, the head of the ICBSG, said: “The contributions from the Arab writers and poets and their wonderful literary content will contribute in a meaningful way to highlight the suffering of our people in Gaza and to support their steadfastness.”

“They are a valuable contribution to efforts to break the siege and to shed light on other dimensions and nature of the conflict with the occupation,” he continued.

Launched in February, “Keys to the future of Palestine” is part of a larger competition organised by the Freedom Flotilla Coalition (FFC).

It coincided with international public events accompanying the launch of the new Freedom Flotilla, which consists of a number of small boats carrying dozens of activists and public figures who are heading to Gaza in an effort to break the illegal siege on Gaza.

Winner of poetry contest:

Mohamed Ziad Choudab – Syria
‘Some of the remains’

Winner of short story contest:
