On the 4th of July, the Brazil-Palestine Institute held a meeting with the participation of Dr. Basem Naim, President of the Council on International Relations and the former Palestinian Minister of Health, with Dr. Alexandre Padilha, Parliamentary Deputy and former Brazilian Minister of Health. Also members of The Brazil-Palestine Institute Ibraspal attended.

The meeting was opened by the head of the institute Dr. Ahmed Shehada, who expressed his gratitude for the efforts exerted to carry out this important meeting on an international level, and the Journalist Juliana Medeiros managed the meeting that dealt with the Covid-19 crisis in Palestine and Brazil and the ways of getting out of it.

On his part, Dr. Naim praised the Brazilian position in supporting the Palestinian issue, indicating that the Brazilian nation's relation and its supporting attitudes to the Palestinian issue will not be affected by Brazil's current external control and imbalance in its policies due to the change of its government's attitude.

Dr. Naim expressed his hope that aids would reach the Palestinian people, especially Gaza Strip, where it is difficult to meet the daily needs to confront the virus, pointing out that despite all the difficulties and the suffocating siege, Gaza is trying to fulfill its duty and confront the crisis with the least possibilities by imposing strict preventive measures.

In his speech, Dr. Naim went to the state of the Gaza Strip after 14 years of the continuous Israeli siege, which the international institutions assert that it became an uninhabitable place under an economic, political and social siege that has destroyed the infrastructure and raised the level  destroyed the infrastructure, increased unemployment, and seriously endangered the lives and health of the population without access to essential medicines and  appropriate health support for crisis management.

The President of the Council on International Relations discussed  the Israeli annexation plan, which, he said, the Palestinian people consider a third catastrophe that threatens stability in the region and the world, affirming the Palestinians' unified attitude against this plan and the necessity of confronting it with all available means.

In his speech, Dr. Padilha expressed his solidarity with the  the Palestinian people just issue and his role in supporting it, denouncing the suppression of the Israeli occupation of this nation and its non-respect of international laws.

Padilha affirmed that a large part of the Brazilian people is ashamed of his government's foreign policy, which is controlled by the extreme right ,incites hatred and intolerance, and alites with the Israeli occupation, and shows an imbalance in its attitudes that contrast the previous Brazilian attitude that always supports  the Palestinian people, and  allies with them against all forms of repression and occupation.

Dr. Padilha confirmed that the committee of solidarity with the Palestinian people in Brazil will take all these data that Dr. Naim presented in a consistent way and reach them to international human rights organizations, pointing to the Brazilian parliamentarians' demand to prosecute the Israeli occupation for his crimes committed against innocent people in Palestine.

The Former Brazilian Minister of Health indicated that the extremist rightist speech that resonates in the world and supports the Israeli occupation government and its policy, seeks to take advantage of the Covid-19 crisis to strengthen the mechanisms of repression, and to promote its isolationist and racist foreign policy against other nations.
