UN calls for ending Gaza siege, helping Palestinians in West Bank and Jerusalem

The UN has called for lifting the blockade on the Gaza Strip and finding solutions to the suffering being faced by the Palestinians under occupation in the West Bank and Jerusalem.

This came at a news conference held on Tuesday by UN spokesman Stephane Dujarric at the international body’s headquarters in New York.

Dujarric stated that the call for lifting Gaza siege had been made by UN Assistant Secretary-General for Humanitarian Affairs and Deputy Emergency Relief Coordinator, Ursula Mueller, following a six-day visit to the occupied Palestinian territories.

“Until there is a viable political solution, it is critical that the international community continues to render support in a consistent and sustained manner to meet the needs of the most vulnerable Palestinians,” the spokesman reiterated Mueller’s remarks.

“Member States must continue to support humanitarian assistance in Gaza and the West Bank. At the same time, they must work to rekindle a robust political dialogue and promote long-term solutions to address the root causes of this crisis,” Mueller added.
