Winter knocks on doors, doubles Palestinian detainees' suffering

The Detainees and Ex-Detainees Affairs Committee said in a statement that the suffering of Palestinian detainees held in Israeli jails is doubled in the winter season due to the lack of clothes, blankets, and heating devices in jails and investigation centers.

The committee added that with the start of the winter season, the detainees suffer from an acute shortage of clothes and blankets needed to protect them from the cold weather, especially in the iron detention centers "caravans" and in the jails located in the desert areas, due to the cold weather prevailing in the areas.

Moreover, it pointed out that the Israeli prison administration uses the policy of "disregarding the lives of detainees and imposing difficult living conditions on them, violating the principles of human rights and international laws and conventions."

The committee called on international and human rights institutions, led by the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC), to put pressure on Israeli authorities to provide the detainees with the winter supplies of clothes and blankets in light of the bitter cold and in light of the cessation of their families' visits.
